
Ear wax is a normal, however in some circumstances excessive ear wax can accumulate and removal may be necessary.
A buildup of wax is more likely to occur in older adults, hearing aid users, earbud users and those with a narrow ear canal.
Anxiety, stress, dietary or hereditary factors can also cause the development of problematic ear wax.

Ear Irrigation
Ear irrigation uses the latest ear irrigation technique which involves a pressurised flow of warm water into the ear that removes the buildup of earwax.
Microsuction
Microsuction removes ear wax using a gentle vacuuming of the ear canal. Microsuction does not involve water.

What happens during my appointment?
- A complete assessment of your medical history and consent to undertake the procedure.
- An examination of your outer and inner ear using an otoscope or an endoscope. Endoscopic examinations will give us greater clarity during examination.
- The registered nurse will then discuss the suitability of each procedure, either irrigation or microsuction.
- Advice on aftercare following the procedure.
Price for Wax Removal Procedure
One Ear: £40 / Both Ears: £50
A triage fee of £25 is applicable if an appointment is carried out but there is no requirement for wax removal. For example clear ear canals (no wax).
A triage involves the registered nurse assessing your need for wax removal.
The nurse will offer you help and advice about any symptoms you may be experiencing that have encouraged you to make an appointment.
This may include a recommendation to follow up with your GP for further investigation.
Our costs include a mobile treatment service within 15 miles of Whitchurch.
